Meet the Designer: Anna Ehrner

Anna Ehrner, born in 1948 in Danderyd, Stockholm, is both a designer and a glass artist, known for her simple yet impactful design language. With an experimental approach, she has the ability to create captivating pieces using only a touch of color, often featuring lines of color within the glass, a signature technique of hers. Her creations are frequently inspired by nature, emerging from the very essence of the glass itself.

Since 1974, Anna has been working with the renowned brand Kosta Boda. Prior to that, she studied ceramics at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack), where she later went on to teach. She is the designer behind several successful collections at Kosta Boda, including the acclaimed Contrast and Line collections, the latter of which is considered one of Sweden's all-time best-selling tableware lines.

Anna's design excellence has been recognized with the prestigious Excellent Swedish Form award, which she received in both 1992 and 1994. In 1983, she was also named the winner of Swedish Glass, further solidifying her reputation as a trailblazing glass artist.

In her own words, Anna describes her creative process: "For me, creativity emerges in the blowing room. This is where the glass is conceived, where it's fashioned and comes alive. I want to work with the glass, not against it. In my designs, I try to follow along with the melted glass, with the sheer power, although I try at the same time to identify the simple and subtle."
