Introducing the Designer: Anna Ehrner

Anna Ehrner, born in 1948 in Danderyd, Stockholm, is both a renowned designer and a talented glass artist, recognized for her simple yet captivating design language. With an experimental and expressive approach, she has the remarkable ability to create impactful pieces using minimal color, often featuring lines of color within the glass as a distinctive trademark.

Her creations are frequently inspired by the very essence of the glass itself, combined with a deep appreciation for the natural world. Ehrner has been collaborating with the prestigious Kosta Boda brand since 1974, after initially studying ceramics at the University of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack), where she later went on to teach.

Over the years, Ehrner has designed several successful collections for Kosta Boda, including the acclaimed Contrast and Line series, the latter of which has become one of Sweden's most popular tableware lines of all time. Her exceptional design work has been recognized with the prestigious Excellent Swedish Form award in both 1992 and 1994, and she was also the winner of the Swedish Glass award in 1983.

Discussing her creative process, Ehrner shares, "For me, creativity emerges in the blowing room. This is where the glass is conceived, where it's fashioned and comes alive. I want to work with the glass, not against it. In my designs, I try to follow along with the melted glass, with the sheer power, although I try at the same time to identify the simple and subtle."

The designer's creations are not only visually captivating but also highly practical, as they are both dishwasher safe and stackable, making them a versatile choice for everyday use. Measuring 2.3 inches in height and 6.3 inches in width, and weighing 0.8 pounds, these pieces are meticulously crafted in Turkey to ensure the highest quality and attention to detail.
